The Revolution square, Kuybishev street (old name - Dvoryanskaya) This square occupies the territory of 125x125 m. It appeared in the first city plan in 1782 as a market. After the fire in 1856 the square became public. In 1870 2-stoyred building appeared next to the square. A young lawyer V.I. Ulianov (Lenin) worked here in 1892-1893. The architect Zasukhin rebuilt it in 1903. The District Court disposed here and the building now has the same view as it was at the beginning of the XX century. The monument of Alexander II was inaugurated in 1889 in the center of this round public garden, which is 38 meters in diameter. The author of the monument was V. Shervud. The tsar was wearing a greatcoat. The four figures of the pedestal symbolized four historical events: peasanfs' release from the serfdom, the conquest of the Caucasus, Bulgarian release from the Turkish yoke, the conquest of the Middle Asia. There was a shield at the pedestal with emperor's deals. The pedestal is maid of red Finnish granite. In 1918 the monument and all the bronze details were destroyed. The square was renamed as the Revolution square. Lenin monument placed on the old pedestal on 7 November in 1927. Its sculptor was M. Manizer. And now we are going along the oldest street Kuybisheva that is parallel to the Volga. The old name of the street is Dvoryanskaya. A lot of people think that it is local " Wall Street" (the main street). The building of Mayor, post office, the cinema "Khudozhestvenniy", Central Bank, two hotels " Zhiguli" and " Hansa" opposite each other are situated on that street.
