There is no need describing vodka – it actually became world famous long time ago. Still the history of the drink, its original recipes and other interesting facts are unknown even to the Russians. For all the interested there is an unusual place – the museum of Russian vodka, located in Nikolajevka village (Volzhskij district).
There is a unique sight - the monument to the Russian vodka. It's the first and the only one in Russia. The Samara dweller Vasilij Ogolzov built the monument himself opposite his country house. The monument represents a 4 meters 4,3 centimeters metal bottle (around 13,264 feet). The height is a matter of principle here – it is a tenfold increase of the original bottle, called “chetvert” (“quarter”, about 2,5 liters), which had been in use before modern 0,5 liters bottle changed it.
Not far from the statue there is a folk Museum of Vodka in Nikolajevka. The museum collection started in 1961 and it has been growing since then. Nowadays it numbers 6 000 glass exhibits (among them 2600 bottles of various configurations), about 7000 labels and other materials and books including “The history of the Russian vodka”.
