Kamennya Chasha (Stone Chalice) is a mysterious place in the Zhiguli Mountains, in the national park Samarskya Lyka. Kamennya Chasha is the widening of the Shiraevo ravine in the place where another ravine, called Kamennij (“Stone”) joins it to create an extraordinary place; being surrounded by high mountains it looks like a giant chalice.
Three springs spurt from beneath the moss-grown rock, and than merge into one mighty stream. This fount is the only boil in the Zhiguli Mountains. As the legend says the hyaline water of the spring is nothing else but the tears of the Mistress of the Zhiguli Mountains, bewailing her loneliness.
Kamennya Chasha is considered to be the holy place as long as in 1998 near the spring was erected the monumental stone in honour of Saint Nicholas and soon after it appeared the chapel.
Kamennya Chasha is popular with the visitors; tourists are attracted not only by the sanctity of the place, but also by its unique ecology and magnificent scenery.
